Collect all fonts (including embedded and preferably postscript type one screen and printer) or Outline Fonts. I have included copy of fonts; one file for truetype and two files for postscript type 1 fonts. On PC s truetype fonts can be found under your control panels fonts. Simply drag to copy to storage medium. Type 1 fonts on PC are usually found on main drive C under Psfonts folder. Or Create Outlines in Illustrator and Indesign- Select > All, then, Type > Create Outlines. 2. Collect all linked images (both vector and raster) I have included a copy of images, logos and diagrams included in my layout file. These are usually in .eps or .tif format. A list of the graphics can be found under Pagemaker- Links Manager, Publisher - Tools/Commercial Printing Tools/ Graphics Manager, Quark Express - Usage. Some of these applications have the capability of collecting for output all linked files 3. Supply current laser proofs of job Have you provided us with a print out of your document or a pdf file if e-mailed? To avoid costly redo´s, it best to provide the document in a format we can check against. 4. Convert all rgb colors to cmyk in both raster and vector layout files If you are printing a full color piece, are your images converted to CMYK? This can be easily done in applications such as Photoshop, Photopaint or Fireworks by selecting correct color mode. If file is a duotone, have you ensured spot colors select are the EXACT same as in the layoutfile (one letter can make a difference here). Are your colors consistent throughout document and vector art? Is there more than one spot color of the same name or similar? Be careful in such cases also as when including a tint (screen) of 80% or more within a solid area, the dot gain may result in a rough looking screen. 5. Check raster image resolution for minimum of 350 ppi If you are providing scans be sure to scan at the correct resolution. For 100% of size needed, scan artwork for best results at 300 dpi, if printing 150 lpi. The minumum allowable is equal to the actual linescreen of the work, e.g. if document will be printed at 150 lpi, scans effective resolution should be no less then 150 dpi. (For lineart a minimum of 800dpi is required for 100%). Any less would result in saw-tawther pixelization. Here is a formula to use when scanning: 2 x linescreen x magnification or reduction/ 100 = dpi needede.g. if you are printing 133 lpi, and you want to scan at 50%; 2 x 133 lpi x 50%/100 = 266dpi We will be glad to check the quality of your scans if you are unsure. If scan is to be done by us, please provide us with cropping information or FPO. Please be careful not to use paper clips and the link on artwork originals. 6. Extend bleed 1/8" on all necessary trims Does your document bleed? Bleeds means inks comes to edge of paper. If so your artwork should have at least 1/8 inch off edge of document in your layout program. Booklets that have many pages may need more - please consult with us to determine creep requirements. Does your document fold properly? Have the panels been set for proper size? In a roll fold, panels have to progressively become smaller to avoid dog-earing when folding on machinery. Please consult with us if unsure. For an 8-1/2 x 11" Trifold Brochure, Front Panel 3-11/16", Back Panel 3-11/16", inside 3-10/16" 7.
